Louis XIII Petrin French Antique from the 17th century
This antique French Louis XIII chest, or petrin, is a rare find in excellent condition. Originally used as a proofing chamber for bread with the surface used to knead. It was also used as a hope, or blanket chest, by French farm girls whose family could not afford the more expensive marriage armoire. Normally a family heirloom passed from generation to generation. Top lifts off and chest may be removed from legs. Beautifully hand pegged. A spectacular blanket chest for the master suite or guest room.
